Easter 2016 Clay Court Training Camp

Posted 11 Apr 2016

On Wednesday 6th April 2016, four EBAT players along with coaches and parents embarked on a three day, clay court training camp at the Dukes Meadow training site in West London.

Clay is an important surface for players to understand, develop their game and learn how to play on, as their tennis careers progress they will find more and more professional tournaments played on this tough surface.

Everyone had a great time, with the players training twice a day under the guidance of Academy Director – Nino Severino, supported by coaches Jamie and Josh.

On the first day we also had a trip across West London to visit Reeds School, which has a great programme for elite junior players between 11 – 17 years old.

Elena Baltacha Foundation trustee Ben Haining (who is a strength and conditioning coach at the school, and was part of Bally’s team when she was playing) gave an overview on the school before treating us to an ‘access all areas’ visit of the school and the facilities available.

On the third day the players took the short trip to visit the National Tennis Centre (NTC) to see the home of British tennis. The players were also lucky enough to meet current British No.1, Johanna Konta who is a great friend of the academy and foundation.

A great three days, with quality training undertaken by all the players.

Everyone is looking forward to more clay court training sessions over the course over the summer!
