CHARLTON MANOR PRIMARY WTA AND MORGAN STANLEY COME PLAY SCHOOL TENNIS ROAD SHOW

Posted 05 Jun 2023

Our visit to Charlton Manor Primary School in Greenwich was the first of a massive week of Tennis Road Shows across London. The 5 tennis roadshows are focused on ensuring more girls are introduced to high quality tennis coaching, our deliverer for the day was Clive Farrell, from Blackheath Tennis Club. Clive was very popular with all the girls, he calmly went about his tennis coaching business, delivering drill after drill, with exceptional skill.

A massive thank you must go out to Tess Collier who worked through all the management of this event with me, in association with Access Sport who supported the reach out to the schools in London through their network. Without the support of the WTA (The Women’s World Tennis Governing Body), and Morgan Stanley, this large tennis inclusion programme would simply not have happened.

We delivered throughout the day, seeing group after group of girls, by the end of the week, are aim was to deliver tennis to over 700 girls, with the aspiration of making them fall in love with our wonderful game.

The sessions incorporated many drills, around balance, reaction, strength, power, and speed, we used many different items all housed in the ‘Come Play’ kit bags donated by the WTA and Morgan Stanley. The bags proved very popular, with silk scarfs, balloons and bean bags all used to benefit the girls during the drills delivered by Clive.

The girls from Charlton Manor Primary school were a credit to their school, all impeccably behaved, showing manors, politeness, and a respectful attitude to Clive, who they clearly had connected with from the very first session he delivered.
