
KATHY MARTIN DELIVERS A WTA EDUCATIONAL EVENT

Abgroup of our foundation members had the opportunity to spend a day of education with Kathy Martin who is the WTA’s Senior Director of Athlete Assistance. Kathy holds a pivotal role centred on championing player welfare and wellbeing. An Australian physiotherapist and mental health counsellor, she holds a master’s in counselling and a Graduate Diploma in Adolescent Health and Welfare. Since joining the WTA in 1991 as a sport physiotherapist, Kathyhas overseen critical support systems for players at all stages of their careers —from juniors transitioning into the pro tour, through to retirement. She also serves as a Player Welfare Officer for the International Tennis Federation (ITF), developing education programmes, policies on safety, security, and abuse prevention, plus guidance on mental, emotional, and physical support. Widely respected for her holistic approach, she has worked to reduce burnout, enhance resilience, and ensure that female players returning from pregnancyor navigating personal challenges receive substantial and compassionate assistance.
